If you didn't catch it already in the article, Hancock ran the 1902 Hancock Meander Line around the northern portion of Lake Okeechobee and extended the sections from the former 1881 Hopkins Meander Line lakeward to it. If you pull the 1903 Twp Plat for T37S-R35E you will see that he shows his own house on it in the center of Section 21! I haven't seen it documented anywhere, but my opinion was that Hopkins ran a fraudulent Meander line - in some cases it is two miles from where Hancock ran it (see Okeechobee City for example). Another explanation for the difference could be the drainage of the lake over those years dropped its levels that much.
